I'm on new computer with nvidia 1080 Ti card and 7i processor.

I have been experimenting how best to deal with noise that shows up particularly in out of focus areas of an image.

See below the frame with no DoF used.
Then with DoF and 30 primary rays rendered at 1000x 425
Then with DoF and 30 primary rays rendered at 4000x 1700 (resized to match 1000x 425)
In the 2nd post I will put with DoF and 100 primary rays rendered out at 1000x 425

Upping the Ray count helps to but again tender time suffers.
Like 30 rays is 2 x faster than 100 rays but 100 does look a lot better.
Upping the image size, resolution to full 4000x1700 helps at lot but seriously impacts on rendering time.

You say in your documentation 'Quality of DoF is driven by Primary rays - it mean, that Effect cost NO more rendertime!' which doesn't seem the case?

I would expect to make a final delivery version at 4k though.

Is there anything I'm missing. Any other tricks.

I can send over a test scene if it helps.

More primary rays are OF COURSE always slower render time.

It's meant, that if you use for your image 500 primary rays and you have TURN ON or OFF your DoF, render time will be almost the same.
But of course there is different in 30 and 500 primary rays.

Thanks and yes I see... that's of course correct...

Any other hints to get the best out of DoF with least cost in render time ??
