This is my graphics card: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 680M
I have used it with FB for a couple of years with no problems.
Suddenly, when I try to render, it first gives me this error: Device does not support DirectX 11
Then, after some time, I get a different error:

"Display driver stopped responding and has recovered: Display driver intel HD Graphics Drivers for Windows 8 stopped responding and has successfully recovered"

From the second error, it seems as though maya is using the default graphics card, and not the NVIDIA card. I have gone into the NVIDIA control panel, and made sure to assign the NVIDIA processor for maya to use. Not sure what else to do.

Hi,
try to reinstall graphics card drivers or use different drivers than you use now. Also you can try to disable your intel hd graphics card.
