Does anyone know how to create a shadow catcher in FurryBall?

Here is an example of what I am trying to accomplish w/FB. http://vimeo.com/18536683

FB does not support maya camera image plane so I can't use useBackground shader.

I am new to FB and Maya, if anyone knows how to get 3d shadows on a 2d surface please post.

I know this can be done post with PhotoShop or Nuke or etc., but I wanted to do it in FB.

I thought the matte setting in the mesh node would help after reading this in the help manual:
Matte - Render mesh as matte, ie. it has depth but is not visible, it can receive shadows and reflections. Shadows and reflections are visible only when rendering to a file and render node is set to output shadows or reflections (see Render Settings Node section).

But I don't see shadows in the rendered file.

Thanks! :)
